DuvTeatern through the years

1996  A drama group is started within the framework of the “De Utvecklingsstördas Väl I Mellersta Nyland” ( an association promoting the well-being of people with developmental disabilities in the region of Cental Uusimaa, Finland).

1998 “Himmel på Jorden” (Heaven on Earth), a play based on the actors' ideas, premieres.

1999 DuvTeatern is founded.

1999 “I Häxornas och Vampyrernas Stad” (In The City of Witches and Vampires), an adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, premieres in the Diana Theatre, Helsinki.

2000 “I Häxornas och Vampyrernas Stad” visits Hangö Teaterträff (Theatre Festival, Hangö, Finland).

2001 “Ofelias Land” (Ophelia´s Land), an adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet, premieres in the Diana Theatre, Helsinki.

2002 “Ofelias Land” visits Hangö Teaterträff.

2002 “Nu är du Hamlet!” (Now you are Hamlet!), a documentary film by Ulrika Bengts, premieres on Finnish Television, FST5 (Produced by: Ab Talking Heads Oy). The film follows the process of DuvTeatern´s development of “Ofelias Land”. “Nu är Du Hamlet!” wins the Best Documentary Film-award at Nordische Filmtage in Lubeck, Germany and the Grand Prix-award at Pärnu International Documentary Film Festival, Estonia. The film was also distributed in the USA.

2003 “Vita Skuggor” (White Shadows), an adaptation of Chekhov's Three Sisters, premieres on the Betania-stage in Helsinki.

2005 “Vita Skuggor” visits Hangö Teaterträff.

2005 “Vita Skuggor” revisits the Betania-stage in Helsinki.

2006 “Vita Skuggor” visits Wasa Teater (in Vasa, Finland) along with Stefan Bremer's photographic exhibition of the production.

2006 “Vita Skuggor” visits Teater Pero in Stockholm. Stefan Bremer's photo exhibition and Ulrika Bengts' documentary are shown at the Finnish Cultural Institute in Stockholm.

2006 Stefan Bremer's photos from “Vita Skuggor” along with Ulrika Bengts' documentary “Nu är du Hamlet!” are shown at the Arts Museum of Åland, Finland,  in connection with the FDUV-convention (Förbundet för de Utvecklingsstördas Väl r.f.).

2007 Stefan Bremer's photos of the “Vita Skuggor” production are exhibited at the Luckan Cultural Centre in Helsinki.

2007 “Sagan om Hans och Greta och mycket annat” (The Story of Hansel and Gretel and Much More), an adaptation of fairytales by the Brothers Grimm, premieres at the G-18 Studio in Helsinki. It is the first children´s show by DuvTeatern and the first time the group engages actively in Audience Education. The educational program is in cooperation with The City of Helsinki Cultural Office.

2008 Sara Sandén, student of Political Sciences at the Swedish School of Social Sciences, writes her bachelors thesis entitled; A Meeting with DuvTeatern: Children meeting theatre and disability/ Drama and theatre as tools in social work.

2008 “Sagan om Hans och Greta och mycket annat” visits Hangö Teaterträff and the written and visual responses of the child-audiences are presented as an exhibition.

2011 “En rovfågel flyger in – en variation på Carmen / Mustien siipien lintu – variaatio Carmenista” (Carmen, Bird of Prey) premieres in the Almi Hall at The National Opera in Helsinki. The Opera performance is a collaboration between The Finnish National Opera, The Blue Flamenco School of Dance and DuvTeatern. Audience Education is arranged for children and adults in cooperation with The Finnish National Opera and The City of Helsinki Cultural Office.

2011 The Duva/Diva publication consisting of Stefan Bremer's Carmen- inspired photos is released.  The photos are also exhibited in the foyer of the Almi Hall and the Sello Hall.

2011 Producer Annina Blom writes her bachelor´s thesis, and costume designer Paula Varis her master´s thesis about their work with the production of Carmen, Bird of Prey.

2011 DuvTeatern celebrates its “approximately 10 year-anniversary”.

2012 A documentary of the performance  “Carmen, Bird of Prey” is directed by filmdirector Anna Blom and shown on FST5-channel. (Produced by: Långfilm Productions).

2012 The exhibition DUVA DIVA: DuvTeatern's Glorious Carmen: Photographs by Stefan Bremer is shown at CHARLES KRAUSE/REPORTING FINE ART in Washington, D.C., USA. Photography: Stefan Bremer, costume: Paula Varis, make-up and hair: Terhi Kalliola & Stina Asikainen, production: DuvTeatern.
